Lockheed Martin Corp, the US federal and defense equipment and services giant, has until December 19 to appeal against its loss of the multi-billion dollar Internal Revenue Service Prime contract, announced last week (CI No 3,557). Lockheed is expected to meet this week with the IRS for a de-briefing, according to recent reports, and it may decide to appeal then. However, this is seen as unlikely because of the company’s close connections with the IRS and the Federal Government. Lockheed currently has two contracts with the IRS. The integrated collection system contract, worth $336m, which will be completed this month and the integrated submission processing and remittance processing deal, worth $60m, due to be completed before the year 2000.
