A new listings app is eyeing expansion into major British cities after launching in Manchester today.

Startup firm Line-Up allows people to create their own personalised what’s on guide to local upcoming events, from gallery showings to cooking schools.

The company won Seedcamp London in January this year before getting investment from Demotix founder Turi Munthe, and serial angel investors Osman Mardin and Richard Fearn, and said its aim was to concentrate initially on Manchester, where it has spotted a gap in the market.

CEO Barnaby Clark said: "Manchester has been overlooked on the app scene prior to now, which is a shame as it’s such a vibrant and exciting city. Line-Up is going to set that straight by bringing everything the city has, together in one place."

Users can save events they find via the listings app to their own personalised list, which can be supplemented by following suggestions from bloggers and local critics.

The free iPhone app uses technology that automatically collects information about millions of events across the country, and it is used to power the What’s On guide across Trinity Mirror’s regional publications.

But Clark hopes to use the listings engine to move into more major UK cities in spring 2014, with London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle all potential options.
