Waltham, Massachusetts-based Novell has struck a cooperation deal with the China Standard Software Co to provide Linux technology, services, and marketing, specifically targeted at the Chinese market.
The deal builds on existing Novell involvement in China. In September 2004, the company joined the China Linux Standard Group, an organization set up with the backing of China’s Ministry of Information Industry in April 2004 to focus on Chinese Linux standards.
Raleigh, North Carolina-based Red Hat established a Chinese operation in November 2004, and is expanding its recently signed relationship with Austrian distributor VDEL Ltd to deliver support services to Red Hat users in 23 countries across central and eastern Europe and Russia.
Support services will be offered in customers’ local language through VDEL’s alliance partners across the region, with services available by telephone and on-site. Earlier this month VDEL signed up to distribute Red Hat Enterprise Linux across CER.
