Having built its Linux server software and appliance business in Munich, Germany, Collax has now moved its global headquarters to Bedford, Massachusetts in anticipation of a launch into the North American market.
The company offers Collax Business Server, an all-in-one Linux server package targeted at SMEs, and Collax Open-Xchange Server, based on a joint development with Open-Xchange Inc, as well as a number of Collax Appliances pre-installed with the Collax Business Server software.
A move to the US has been on the cards since Collax announced Series A funding of $8.4m from Atlas Venture Partners, Wellington Partners, and Intel Capital in February. Last month the company hired Paula Hunter as VP of US marketing to lead the charge.
Hunter was formerly business development director at the Open Source Development Labs, and before that had served as general manager of the UnitedLinux project. Collax was spun off from appliance and server vendor Pyramid Computer GmbH in August 2005 and was co-founded by Boris Nalbach, chief technology officer and the former CTO of SUSE Linux.
