The non-profit organization has announced that open source licensing expert, Karen Copenhaver, and standards expert Andy Updegrove, have joined the foundation’s legal team to provide members with legal expertise.

Copenhaver is a partner with Choate, Hall and Stewart, while Updegrove is a partner and founder of Gesmer Updegrove, which already acts as the Linux Foundation’s outside legal counsel.

The foundation also announced that it will hold a legal strategy summit for members later this year to be led by Copenhaver and Updegrove. The invitation-only event will attempt to find a consensus on the steps required to build a legal defense infrastructure for Linux and will include legal representative from the likes of IBM, HP, Intel and Novell.
