Part of LinkedIn’s success has been making the site available in the native tongue in December 2011. LinkedIn’s attempt to promote the site’s usage globally has proved successful as the number of groups on LinkedIn using Indonesian has doubled to over 700 groups since.

LinkedIn’s growth since its local language launch in Indonesia is quite impressive. Managing Director for Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia, Clifford Rosenberg, says the Indonesian market is very important to LinkedIn.

"Indonesia is an important market for us where we see a huge potential for growth," he said.

"Two months after the launch of the local language site, this is a significant milestone for us that demonstrates that professionals in Indonesia are interested in building their online brand on LinkedIn."

The top three largest industry areas on LinkedIn for Indonesia are currently oil and energy and telecommunications, alongside IT services.

LinkedIn was founded in 2003 and currently boasts 150 million members worldwide. Its growth in Indonesia is seeing competition from Facebook. Indonesia is Facebook’s third largest market.
