LINK AND MATRIX TO MERGER THEIR NETWORKS IN 1989

In a bid to bring benefit to eight million cardholders, bank and building society cashcard rivals Link and Matrix have decided to merge their networks in the spring of 1989: switches will link the two nets’ mainframes – Tandem and the IBM bureau facility in Warwick respectively – to maintain real-time, on-line transaction processing; consultants Benton have yet to reccomend software, but it will probably come in the shape of an off-the-shelf package from the US.
