Linear Tape Open has won seven more supporters for its proposed new tape formats. Advanced Research Corp, Exabyte Corp, Hitachi Maxell, Matsushita Electric Industry, Mitsumi Co Ltd, Otari Inc and TDK are the latest to support the format, bringing the total number of supporters up to 24. TDK and Hitachi Maxell are full licensees, while the other five have acquired rights for the Ultrium and Accelis specifications. Separately, IBM Corp announced that automatic cartridge tape library company Qualstar Corp would buy in LTO tape technology from IBM Corp, and use it in future products. LTO’s technology provider companies are IBM, Hewlett-Packard Co and Seagate Technology Inc.
