Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products NV has launched two new products aimed at the lower end of the speech recognition market, the Voice Express Mobile Professional and Simply Translating for PCs. The Belgian company’s demonstration at PCExpo in New York also showcased the Clarion AutoPC, which uses L&H software, on demonstration in an actual production car.
The Voice Express Mobile Professional combines L&H’s speech recognition engine with the Olympus DS-150 digital handheld recorder, so that up to 75 minutes of speech can be recorded and transcribed onto a Windows desktop PC by the user. The Simply Translating software uses technology from L&H’s iTranslator package and provides translations to and from English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian and French. The package examines each sentence for context while translating and can convert whole documents in Word and WordPerfect. Voice Express Mobile Professional and Simply Translating are scheduled for a July release, costing $229 and $50, respectively.
