LG Semicon Co reckons it has developed the world’s fastest 16Mb SDRAM, promising substantially improved performance for desktop PCs, workstations, notebook computers and portable electronic devices. LG engineers have reduced the Column Address Time to less than 16 nanoseconds, and the 0.25 micron chips run at 133MHz clock speed, twice the usual 66MHz. The Seoul, Korea-based company says it has also achieved a 21% reduction in operating power consumption, and a 37% shrinkage in chip size, meaning that 60% more chips can be fitted onto each wafer.
