LG MEMORY CHIP WORKERS CALL OFF 15 DAY STRIKE

By CBR Staff Writer

Workers at the LG Group’s LG Semiconductor unit have returned to work, removing one of the last major barriers to the firm’s merger with Hyundai Electronics Ltd. An agreement was reached over workers’ compensation following a strike that started on January 24 and lasted 15 days. With six production lines affected at the Chungju and Kumi plants, the stoppage has affected world DRAM supplies. The two companies are still said to be far apart on a purchase price agreement, although the government is hoping the deal will close by February 16.
