A fire that reportedly damaged part of LG Electronics’ Mexicali, Mexico plant on Saturday April 3 may have further damaged the supply chain for Apple Computer Inc’s candy-colored iMacs. The plant had been an important source for iMacs since the $10bn outsourcing deal struck between Apple and LG in February (CI No 3,592).

The AppleInsider web site reports that while the fire itself did not cripple the facility, the subsequent water damage was severe enough to shut down the plant. Blueberry and grape iMacs are expected to be in short supply for the next month or two, and by lowering iMac production numbers, the incident might affect Apple’s June quarter.
