LG has unveiled a new version of its pocket-sized printer which enables users to print 2 x 3 inch photos from a smartphone or tablet.
The announcement comes ahead of the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The device measures 7.2 x 12.1 x 2.0cm, making it 4mm slimmer than its predecessor.
The Pocket Photo 2.0 is compatible with Android and iOS, with users connecting to the device wirelessly via NFC or Bluetooth.
Photos have a quality of 313dpi, with the device using ZINK technology – heat activated colour-forming chemicals embedded in each sheet of paper, negating the use of ink cartridges.
New photo editing features are included with the Pocket Printer 2.0. Users can also embed QR codes in photos, allowing them to bring up a digital version of the photo on their device.
"Printed photos have a sentimental appeal that digital images are not truly able to replicate," said Byung-hoon Min, senior vice president of LG’s Home Entertainment Company.
"Our newest Pocket Photo embraces the emotional aspect of the printed photo while offering a level of portability and convenience that are missing from today’s digital cameras."
Last month, LG announced the first PC to be powered by Google’s Chrome operating system.
The all-in-one, which resembles an Apple iMac, will be cheaper than competitors as Google does not charge manufacturers to include its software in the machine.
The Linux-based OS already comes pre-installed on some laptops or machines like the Chromebook, but this will be the first device that doesn’t require a separate monitor.
Products like MS Office, iTunes and Adobe software will all be able to function on the PC, but Google will also offer its own native, free alternatives.
