LG plots smarphone fightback with Android powered Optimus G

Voice activated camera allows taking snaps by talking to the device

LG Electronics has released a new Optimus G smartphone in a bid to regain its position in the market to rivals that include Apple and Samsung Electronics.

Powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon processor, the new smartphone features Google’s Android 4.0.4 ICS operating system, a new voice activated camera, 32GB of built-in storage along with 2GB of RAM and a quad-core Adreno 320 GPU.

According to LG, the new 13 megapixel camera will allow the user to instruct to take snaps by talking to it while a 4.7-inch screen is claimed to offer a sharper picture quality than both the iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S III.

Connectivity options offered by the phone include 3G/4G (HSDPA, HSUPA, LTE), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with Direct/DLNA/Hotspot functionality, microUSB, Bluetooth, and NFC.

Features of the new smartphone also include Dolby mobile sound enhancement, active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, and a 2,100 mAh battery which is expected deliver up to 15 hours of talk time, and 335 hours of standby time.

Expected to go on sale next week in the South Korean the smartphone will also be launched in Japan in October and other foreign markets in November 2012.

LG is targeting to sell 35 million smartphones in 2012 despite of achieving only about 30% of the target.
