LG Optimus 2X to be on sale in UK next month

The South Korean company to focus on smartphone market this year

By CBR Staff Writer

LG Optimus 2X, reportedly the first dual core smartphone in the market, will go on sale in the UK on 21 February.

The Android smartphone, which was released at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, will cost £499.99 with free delivery, slightly more expensive than single-core competitors.

The smartphone features a four-inch capacitive WVGA display, 8-megapixel camera, full HD video capture, 3G, several sensors and up to 40GB onboard memory.

LG‘s mobile communications vice-president and head of marketing Ma Chang-min was quoted by Reuters as saying that the South Korean electronics maker has sold around 7 million smartphones last year and hopes to sell 30 million units this year.

The company’s strategy for 2011 would be to improve high end offerings such as Optimus 2X and Black, Ma told the news agency during an interview at the CES.
