LG has introduced its new Optimus 3D handset at the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona.

The smartphone has a 4.3-inch 3D touchscreen with a new technology that makes it possible for the user to see the stereoscopic effect without wearing special glasses.

The user can toggle between 2D and 3D and also turn the 3D effect down or off completely. The games on the phone offer this feature through the touchscreen.

Optimus 3D users will be able to let other people view the content using HDMI or DLNA to connect to an external screen, LG said.

The handset comes with two 5mp cameras which allows for recording video footage in 3D. The device runs on Google’s Android and has a dual-core Omap4430 chipset.

The handset will have three pre-installed titles from Gameloft: Let’s Golf 2, Asphalt Origins and Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, said the company.

The company said the smartphone will be available worldwide starting in Europe in the second quarter.

LG Mobile president Jong-seok Park said that the company will emerge as a leader in the next generation of smartphone.

Park said, "What you see here today is just the beginning — we will continue to innovate with products."
