Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products NV of Ypres, Belgium has announced new automatic speech recognition systems, the LandH.asr1500/T and the LandH.asr1500/M software developers’ kit. They are an upgrade to previous models and are now compatible with Microsoft Corp’s Speech Application Program Interface. The LandH.asr1500/T is a speaker-independent, phoneme-based engine. Similar in functionality to the LandH.asr1000/T, it features barge in capabilities, echo cancellation, new language models for improved recognition accuracy and line adaptation to account for bad phone lines. The LandH.asr1500/M software developers’ kit has improved phonetic modelling and supports Windows95. It offers new language models for improved recognition. The LandH.tts3000/T is a text-to-speech technology that converts computer-readable text into natural-sounding, synthetic speech. The new LandH.smc150 compression kit encodes and decodes voice at 1.7Kbps. One minute of speech compresses into 13.6Kb storage.
