The PC maker has brought in Christopher Askew, who was head of Dell Services in the Asia Pacific and Japan region, to lead the business. He will report directly to Lenovo’s CEO William Amello, and will be based in Singapore.
A spokesperson for Lenovo said the new unit has enormous opportunities to grow the business, but would not be drawn on what services Lenovo would provide, or whether it would service third-party products.
The move also calls into question the status of its relationship with IBM. When Lenovo bought IBM’s PC business last year, the deal included making IBM Lenovo’s preferred services provider. The spokesperson said Askew would work with IBM and all services partners in order to grow the business.
