PC manufacturer Lenovo has acquired US start-up Switchbox Labs for an undisclosed sum. Lenovo said Switchbox is developing new consumer technologies, but it has not made public what exactly it is working on. It is expected that Switchbox technologies will be integrated into Lenovo products in the future.
Switchbox co-founders Michael Sievert, Robert Dickinson, and Blake Ramsdell will join Lenovo.
Sievert has been appointed as a senior vice president of the company and will report directly to chief executive William Amelio, who said: Innovation is the lifeblood of our company, and despite the current challenges in the worldwide economy and PC industry, we are committed to investing in strategies and technologies that will help deliver exceptionally engineered products and services to our customers. Switchbox Labs is doing some interesting work, and we are pleased that Switchbox and Mike are joining Lenovo.
Lenovo has been integrating new technologies in its products. It recently added instant-on technologies to its IdeaPad S10 netbook and released a ThinkPad W700DS laptop workstation with two screens. It also released the IdeaCentre A600 all-in-one PC with a remote control that doubles as a Wii-like motion-based controller.
