LinkedIn has introduced an app aimed at helping users find coworkers and learn about them.

Dubbed LinkedIn Lookup, the app allows users to identify their co-workers in the same organisation, with specific skills and responsibilities.

In April this year, LinkedIn surveyed 814 professionals in North America and found just 38% use their companies’ intranets to get data about coworkers.

About 58% of respondents said they could do a better job if they could find coworkers with a specific set of skills.

LinkedIn said 30% of its users who searched for other users were actually looking for co-workers’ profiles.

The new app allows users to search for coworkers by name, title, current and past experience, education, and skills.

They can also message coworkers, even if they haven’t downloaded the new app. The company said messages sent to coworkers’ LinkedIn inboxes through Lookup will not be counted against the number of InMails members get a month.

Users can get in touch with their coworkers via email, phone, or chat without the need of several contact lists.
