Learmonth & Burchett Management Systems Plc, now decamped from the shores of its birth and headquartered in Houston, Texas has turned in a respectable set of interim results, showing as promised that it is back on its feet after past troubles (CI No 2,691). The software design and services company turned in profits of ú407,000, after losses last time of ú2.8m, on turnover up 17.3% to ú12.4m. The company decided to concentrate solely on its process management and systems engineering business last year, selling its consultancy business in July 1994 (CI No 2,453), and says the strategy has paid off. John Bantleman, president and chief executive said the change in the company’s global strategy to focus on software products provides the company with growth opportunities outside the US. He added the company’s improving operating profitability demonstrates the success of [its] transition to a US headquartered global software company. One of the flagship products is Process Engineer, a client-server process management system, which it says offers guidelines on all phases of managing system development, formerly only available in large paper volumes. Bantleman said the company was now seeing a strong growth in software licence sales in the US. On November 16 it completed its initial public offering on Nasdaq (CI No 2,795) and raised ú8.2m. It said it was looking for acquisitions to increase its global presence.
