There’s no question that the English language is the most wonderful means of expression in the world, but we have to admit that words that are spelled alike do occasionally present problems: with the Daily Mail campaign about the threat of lead poisoning from petrol emissions in full swing, our first reaction on reading a headline in yesterday’s Financial Times was oh no, not another industry hit by a pollution scare; what was the worrysome headline? Lead in fibre optics technology ‘at risk’.
