LCI International Inc, looking to expand its nationwide fiber- optic network has agreed to purchase a position in a fiber-optic cable running from Cleveland, Ohio to New York from IXC Communications Inc. The new route will be connected to the existing LCI network, establishing owned coast-to-coast facilities, and brings the company a step closer to the deployment of additional SONET (synchronous optical network) ring architecture throughout its fiber-optic facilities. The deal marks the second fiber expansion announcement by LCI this year.
