Lawson Software has introduced its Lawson Analytics tool for Healthcare at the Lawson Conference and User Exchange in Boston.

The company said the new tool connects staffing, clinical and financial information for decision-making in a "simple way".

It said the tool will help deliver "the benefits of a major business-intelligence project at a fraction of the cost and time."

Set for release in May, Lawson Analytics for Healthcare extracts data from Lawson systems, such as ERP applications, as well as non-Lawson applications, including workforce management systems from other vendors. This, the company claims, allows companies to start using data instead of looking for it.

Though the tool comes pre-installed with healthcare operational metrics, customers can also use the tool for their own preferences.

The company said that healthcare providers can reduce costs and improve operations by using the tool. Lawson also said that companies can have improved decision-making involving hiring, scheduling, payroll and staff development with the analytics tool.

Lawson vice-president of industry strategy Bob Ainsbury said that his company "worked closely with our healthcare customers to better understand the data that is most important to them and to understand precisely how they use the information."

He added that the tool enables customers to "improve their business performance and operating margin."
