The production of larger 12.9-inch-screen iPad has been postponed, due to delays related to supply of display panels.

Bloomberg cited sources familiar to the matter as saying that Apple initially decided to commence production of the iPads in the present quarter but now the schedule has been shifted to September.

iPad sales have slumped during the past four quarters and reportedly the big screen iPads are an effort by company CEO Tim Cook to revive the falling sales of the device.

The present generation iPads are not only facing competition from other rival brands, but it is also competing against its own bigger screen iPhone 6 which has helped the company to earn record profit in the latest quarter.

According to reports, the big screen iPads are targeted towards business users as the device can be used in place of laptops during fieldwork.

The iPad maker also collaborated with IBM, for the creation of mobile software for businesses.

IBM is also reportedly set to promote iPads to its corporate customers.

According to IHS Technology, global sales of tablets to businesses, governments and institutions are expected to rise to 101 million units in 2018 from the previous 19 million units in 2013.
