A mobile data collection startup has accused large hosting providers of shunning early-stage companies as it announced a new contract with a cloud platform.

ECO-OMG, which also specialises in audit and compliance for the service and construction sectors, has signed a deal with ServerSpace after claiming household name providers roundly ignored its requests to do business.

ECO-OMG’s director, Mark Irvine, said his experience was a "worrying" sign for other young firms which decide it is cheaper to outsource their hosting and connectivity requirements.

He said: "As a rapidly growing startup trying to establish our name, we found it very hard to gain any type of response from the larger hosting providers.

"In fact, we approached a number of companies, some of them household names, and the lack of response to our requests was worrying.

"Any new business needs careful and dedicated nurturing. It’s important that a startup company such as ECO-OMG is given the necessary guidance when it comes to something as important as web and application hosting provision."

ServerSpace now hosts the company’s website and servers, and MD Tim Pat Dufficy said ECO-OMG’s experience did not surprise him.

"We have had great success with the UK’s start-up sector which is a very important sector for the future of the UK economy," he added. "We were a start-up once too."
