Vienna, Virginia-based Landmark Systems Corp is touting the latest version of its performance monitoring package, The Monitor for Unix, – which enables Simple Network Management Protocol systems to capture and view performance alerts from Unix systems. It already provides integration with Sun Microsystems Inc, Hewlett-Packard Co and IBM Corp network management environments, and users can now also graft the tool on to Tivoli Systems Inc’s Tivoli Management Environment, and can launch reports from the Tivoli Enterprise Console. The Monitor for Unix 3.1 is priced at from $5,000 for the management station and $1,750 for each Unix server agent. Meantime, the company has tailored a version of the package specifically for Sybase Inc database environments as The Mon itor for Sybase, claiming that it is the first performance-monitoring package for large-scale distributed SQL Server sites. Landmark said the Monitor gathers performance metrics from up to hundreds of SQL Server implementations with no performance degradation, and is able to display all the information on a single console. It publishes data to third party reporting tools such as Excel, SAS/Access or Forest & Trees via Open Database Connectivity, and it displays data and alert notification via its own built-in graphical viewer or via a third-party Simple Network Management Protocol manager console. The Monitor for Unix costs from $5,000 for the management station; agent software required for each instance of the Sybase database is priced from $3,750.
