Version 8.5 of the Salt Lake City, Utah-based company’s Management Suite includes the LANDesk Security Suite, which was released as an add-on to version 8 in mid-December, as well as a redesigned software distribution wizard for application deployment.
The Security Suite is designed to enable administrators to perform system inventory, identify vulnerabilities, and test and deploy fixes, as well as remove and block spy- and mal-ware programs from a single suite.
In addition to the bundling of security functionality, version 8.5 also includes support for handheld devices built into the core management system, enabling the management of servers, desktops, and mobile devices from a single console. LANDesk has also added support for Java-based Blackberry devices from Research In Motion Ltd.
The company is also scheduled to announce at Macworld Expo that it has enhanced patch management, software distribution, and remote control functionality for Apple Mac systems in Management Suite 8.5.
The added functionality will enable administrators to deploy patches to Mac systems and create customized agent preferences for deployment, while improving software download efficiency and remote control performance. The management suite is available now priced at $89 per node.
