Jacksonville, Florida-based NewRoad specializes in development of .NET-based applications for ITIL-compliant service desk management.
No financial details were released, but the companies confirmed that the acquired Autobahn change management software would be integrated with the LANDesk Management Suite to automate many of the critical workflow and business processes associated with enterprise systems and security management routines.
LANDesk sees its key market opportunity coming from the requirement of companies for efficient and effective management of IT resources, particularly in regard to keeping applications and operating system software up-to-date.
LANDesk Management Suite is its core product, and which is required for all implementations of its server, systems and security management software. It incorporates an auto-discovery feature, which is regarded as one of the strengths of the product. This identifies all devices with an IP address such as PCs, laptops, printers, routers, and switches. An inventory is also created of all software installed on each device that is discovered.
Other notable features are the software distribution facility which can be applied to operating system deployment and migration or to patch management, using an associated LANDesk Security Suite), and a remote control feature which when used in conjunction with a help desk, helps increase the number of logs resolved at the first call.
LANDesk said it plans to make the newly acquired NewRoad technologies available as both a stand-alone product offering and as an add-on product for existing LANDesk products.
