Diversifying Japanese ceramic packages manufacturer Kyocera Corp – it was terribly embarrassed when asked whether its packages encapsulated the chips that contributed so much to the Allied victory in the Gulf, saying once it’s sold the things, it doesn’t like to think about what happens to them – is establishing a company to manufacture its laser printers in Rouen. Kyocera Manufacturing France SA will be capitalised at $1.8m, will be the first such operation to be established outside Japan. It initially plans to produce printers at a rate of 1,000 a month, starting this month. The company has earmarked investment totalling $260m for the establishment of the plant and the reorganisation of the European sales network. The new move follows the company’s establishment of the Kyocera Electronics France marketing operation.
