KPN said in a statement it was buying Enertel from private equity group Greenfield Capital Partners, and that Enertel’s data center would offer the former Dutch telecoms monopoly extra capacity for hosted services. KPN will also gain 200 wireless hotspots, which will be integrated into its own KPN HotSpots subsidiary.
Enertel is an independent data traffic and telecom services provider in Holland, specializing in voice, data, and internet solutions. It owns a datacenter and a Network Operation Center, and also acquired hotspot operator WinQ in June 2004, which has allowed it to offer wireless broadband services since October 2004.
The deal is subject to regulatory approval of the Dutch Competition Authority.
