KPMG names next-gen BPO centres

Boise, Gdansk, Ho Chi Minh City...in a list of 31

By CBR Staff Writer

Belfast, Brisbane or Buenos Aires could become the next Bangalore, as a centre favoured by business process outsourcing suppliers a study by KPMG has proposed.

Large labour pools, proximity to the major client bases and multiple language skills could help these or any other of 31 cities nominated by KPMG become potential alternatives to BPO-favoured Bangalore.

The auditors said that the credit crisis has prompted a new rush for outsourcing services across IT and that a number of new locations are emerging as viable BPO hubs.

According to KPMG’s Exploring Global Frontiers report, places like Bangalore, Chennai and Shanghai could soon be approaching saturation point.

Shamus Rae, Advisory Partner at KPMG in the UK said “Corporates need to know which locations to consider next for their outsourcing activities. There are subtle nuances in terms of labour skills, niche specialisms and government incentives which have led us to highlight these 31 locations as stars of the future.”

The listing is an eclectic mix and takes in Calgary in Canada to tiny Port Louis in Mauritius, which apparently is developing an international reputation as a disaster recovery centre.
