KOKUSAI KENSHIN DENWA FORMALLY PROPOSES THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE TPC-4

By CBR Staff Writer

Kokusai Denshin Denwa has now formally proposed the construction of the fourth trans-Pacific undersea cable, TPC-4, at an international in Kyoto attended by luminaries from 22 companies including British Telecom and AT&T: the cost of TPC-4 is expected to be low because it will be laid close to the existing cable which links Japan and the US via Guam and Hawaii, but the new one will provide a direct link; KDD initially said that its existing TPC-3 cable would satisfy demand until the year 2000, but rather blew its cred when it proposed its own new cable after all when the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications approved the Cables- Itoh IDC consortium’s plan for a north trans-Pacific cable.
