KOKUSAI DENSHIN DENWA TO REDUCE INTERNATIONAL TELECOM CHARGES

By CBR Staff Writer

Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co has asked the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications for permission to reduce international telecommunications charges by an average of 21.1%, beginning in September: total savings to users are expected to be around $360m, made up almost entirely of reductions in overseas telephone charges – the cost differential between calling from Japan to the US, and calling in the opposite direction will be eliminated, with a 3.6 minute call to the US reduced by 30%; charges for operator-assisted calls will remain the same for the first three minutes, but will be reduced by 2% to 23% thereafter.
