Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co, AT&T & Co and Taiwan’s International Telephone Development Corp have come together to consider the laying of an undersea optical firer cable between Japan and Taiwan: the current 4,800bps cable running between Okinawa and Taiwan will reach capacity by 1992, and the plan is to have a new larger cable, with a capacity of 7,560 channels in operation by mid-1993 – but the three companies want investemnt contributions from he worlds’ major telecommunications operators before going ahead; at the first round of presentations, 24, from 15 countries expressed interest in investing.
