Eastman Kodak Co is using Motorola Inc’s 32-bit MPC823 embedded PowerPC chips for its Kodak Digital Science DC220 and DC260 zoom digital cameras. The cameras use the Digita operating system software from San Jose, California-based Flashpoint Technologies Inc (CI No 3,353). Motorola signed a technology alliance last December with Flashpoint to develop a standardized software platform for developing applications to support embedded PowerPC cores. Digita enables on-board functionality to be updated through software upgrades, and lets users capture and modify images, add voice and text annotations, catalog and print images without first uploading them to a personal computer. Sharp Inc and Minolta are also using the software.
