Kineto Wireless, a supplier of services that enable delivery of mobile services over broadband, has unveiled a new Smart Wi-Fi Offload service to address the capacity and coverage challenges faced by mobile operators, due to rapid subscriber adoption of smartphones.

Kineto said that the service turns existing Wi-Fi access points into extensions of a mobile operator network, enabling smartphone users to receive mobile services over Wi-Fi, including voice, SMS, data, IMS and web-based services. It also solves the capacity crunch problem by offloading all services along with web traffic and enables mobile operators to use Wi-Fi to address the indoor 3G coverage problem.

According to the company, Smart Wi-Fi Offload service offers all mobile services over Wi-Fi and enables mobile operators to turn off the cellular radio whenever a smartphone is connected to Wi-Fi. It frees up spectrum for outdoor users and has a Wi-Fi application for smartphones that enables operators to benefit from Wi-Fi offload by making smart routing decisions and offloading web traffic directly to the internet. It routes the operator’s premium services over a secure connection to the mobile core network.

In addition, it is equipped with Multi-Service Access Gateway that connects to a mobile operator’s existing voice and data service core and extends all mobile services over broadband access network. It also supports wide range of interfaces, including 3GPP GAN, 3GPP Home NodeB and VoLGA, the company said.
