KINETICS ADDS FULL SUPPORT FOR DECNET ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN THE FASTPATH 4

By CBR Staff Writer

The Kinetics Inc Apple Computer arm of Excelan Inc has added full support for DEC’s DECnet routing protocols in its FastPath 4 AppleTalk-to-Ethernet gateway: the new gateway software, included with the FastPath 4, came out of a joint technology development effort between Kinetics and Thursby Software Systems, and supplies DECnet Level-1 routing capabilities, so that Apple Macs with Thursby-developed TSSnet Version 1.3.2 DECnet software get access to full resource sharing in DECnet local area networks over Ethernet cabling, offering an alternative to using individual Ethernet controller boards in each Mac to access DECnet; TSSnet is marketed by Alisa Systems Inc, and TSSnet 1.3.2 now supports DECnet using LocalTalk cabling; DECnet routing support will be bundled with every FastPath 4 from next month, and current FastPath 4 owners will be eligible to get the DECnet upgrade at no charge; the FastPath 4 gateway costs $2,800.
