The new software will feature Kinect Studio, ’10-joint’ skeletal tracking and speech recognition for four languages.
Microsoft announced that the 1.5 version of the Kinect for Windows software development will be available at the end of May.
The new Kinect for Windows 1.5 will feature Kinect Studio, an app to let allow developers record, playback and debug users’ clips, ’10-joint’ skeletal tracking, an app to allow one to keep track of a user’s head, neck and arms and four new four new languages for speech recognition, including French, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese.
Microsoft will also release new language packs, which provide speech recognition for the way a language is spoken in different regions.
They would be English for Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, French for Canada and France and Spanish for Spain and Mexico.
Microsoft Kinect general manager Craig Engler said that Microsoft will launch Kinect for Windows in 19 more countries in the coming months.
"We will have availability in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan in late May. In June, Kinect for Windows will be available in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, India, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates," Engler said.
The current version of Kinect for Windows can be downloaded now, while the hardware shipment will cost $249.
