KENYA PLANS TELECOMS PRIVATIZATION

By CBR Staff Writer

Kenya is planning to privatize the Kenya Posts & Telecommunications Corp. It will involve splitting the state enterprise into three separate entities – a regulatory body, a posts division and a telecommunications service. The government will have to amend the existing monopoly telecommunications act for the proposed changes to take effect, and the new plan envisages the government retaining its monopoly on delivering letters and the printing and issuing of stamps.
