Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co and three other Japanese high-tech firms have set up a joint venture to broadcast videos over the internet using high-speed lines starting in July, according to a Nihon Keizai Shimbun report. Up to one million computers will be accessed simultaneously by the service, creating what company officials claim is the largest internet video broadcasting station. The group will offer the service, called JStream, as a marketing tool for companies that wish to broadcast videos of their products. Interestingly, one of KDD’s partners in the venture is NTT PC Communications Inc, the internet service provider subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp, making the project the first joint business effort between a member of the NTT group and KDD. The group currently has capital of about $4.2m. and has projected sales in the first year at $1.3m.
