KDD HAS FILED WITH MINISTRY OF POSTS & TELECOMMUNICATIONS TO OFFER GROUP 4 FAX SERVICE BETWEEN TOKYO AND US

Kokusai Denshin Denwa has filed with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to offer Group 4 facsimile service between Tokyo and the US, and hopes to start this month: Group 4 uses digital transmission and long packet mode to send an A4 page in three to four seconds against one minute for Group 3 – and at four times the resolution; facsimiles machines must be X25-compatible, and attachment rates will be $500 for 9,600bps, $1,033 for 48kbps or 56kbps, plus a transmission fee of $1.63 per kilosegment and $0.13 a minute.
