Yahoo has hired former television correspondent Katie Couric to anchor global news coverage as the company looks to further expand its media brand.
American television journalist, author and talk show host, Couric used to host CBS Evening News and co-hosted NBC’s Today show.
Couric will take charge from early 2014 and help develop Yahoo News’ coverage with a team of correspondents who will report on live world events and conduct groundbreaking interviews.
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer said Katie’s depth of experience, her intellectual curiosity, and her charisma make her the perfect choice.
"Her unmatched energy, savvy, and versatility enables her to connect with audiences across the globe," Mayer said.
"News is a definitive daily habit for our users — and Katie will work with our talented editorial team to pioneer a new chapter of digital journalism."

Yahoo is looking to offer better news and content to its 800 million users worldwide through new ways of thinking and innovative products..
Earlier, the company hired tech columnist David Pogue, Yahoo News editor in chief Megan Liberman, and national political columnist Matt Bai.
