Kanematsu Semiconductor will import and market kits that combine the MS-DOS-compatible DR-DOS from Digital Research Inc with an IBM-compatible BIOS all in ROM, and says that not only is it much cheaper than a straight MS-DOS machine, but is also considerably faster: turns out that DR-DOS was actually developed by Award Software, which supplies Digital Research with both the software and the Award ROM and sample price for the kit is about $70 for building two to 99 AT-alikes, and in volume, the price per system is expected to fall to less than $20; Kanematsu, which also manufactures an AX standard micro, will pitch the kits mainly at cheapo lap-top makers.
