Borland International Inc, Scotts Valley, California, has announced figures that look pretty rosy, net profits up 890% at $61.4m, until you remove the extraordinary gains relating from the sell off of Quattro Pro, a whopping $135.3m. After a simple piece of subtraction, Borland lost $73.9m, against a profit last time of $6.2m, on turnover that slumped 44% to $69.1m. However, Philippe Kahn, chairman and visionary, is confident about the future, citing the upcoming shipping of dBase for Windows and a new version of Paradox for Windows, as the first of a stream of new products, coming over the horizon.
