Jyra Research Inc, a UK-based software developer, is teaming with networking giant Cisco Systems Inc to offer its Service Management Architecture (SMA) package in association with the US manufacturer’s equipment to telcos across Europe. Paul Robinson, Jyra’s CEO and a former Cisco employee, said his company has recently completed training the technical and sales teams of Cisco’s European service providers in how to sell and deploy SMA.
Robinson explained that the Java-based package enhances IP-based networks by enabling their operators to offer value-added services over them. These services include web host monitoring, which makes it possible to measure response times on requests for pages or specific information, and application performance monitoring, which again measures response times to enable network operators to ensure, for instance, that service representatives are responding to customers’ requirements within pre-set times.
Jyra originally developed SMA for the corporate datacoms environment but, as the market take-up was slower than expected, it re-directed its attentions to telcos and ISPs, accompanying the trend towards outsourcing of corporate networks.
