The Department of Justice has voiced its support for the special court master appointed by the judge hearing the government’s anti-trust case against Microsoft Corp. In the latest court filing, Justice urged Judge Thomas Penfold to reject Microsoft’s claim that Harvard Law School professor and internet law expert Lawrence Lessig would be biased against the software company, based on previous writings. Justice said Microsoft has provided no evidence of bias or demonstrated why a special officer should not be appointed under the exceptional conditions of this case. Lessig is due to submit a report to the judge by May 31.
