Noticed how things are falling apart in our national newspapers since the gnarled old typesetters and stone subs with printers’ ink in their veins have been replaced by computers – apart from the infelicities like ludicrous hyp-henations and intrusive hy-phens in the middle of lines, we get such things as happened in Tuesday’s Evening Standard where the lunchtime edition carried the close of play score in the Sri Lanka-New Zealand test match (we’re talking something that matters here, namely cricket) in the Late News column, the final edition carried only a short report inside – which gave nothing later than the tea score.
