Juniper to double Indian engineers

Juniper Networks Inc, which make Internet gear, plans to double its Indian staffing at its newly opened engineering facility in Bangalore over the next couple of years. The company says it expand its workforce at the site to 675 engineers by the end of 2007.

Juniper inaugurated the new $8.5m high-tech facility this week. It currently employs 300 engineers, which represents around 10% of Juniper’s R&D (R&D) staff.

Juniper first set up shop in India two years ago, opening small R&D and testing facility.

Juniper’s nearest rival, Cisco Systems Inc, is also building a much larger $50m technical facility in the same city which will house up to 3,000 engineers. Cisco currently employs 1,400 engineers in Indian, Both companies are vying for a share of India’s burgeoning telecommunications sector.
