The Semiconductor Industry Association reported another rise in worldwide semiconductor sales in June, up 13.6% from the same period last year. Sales in Japan and Asia rose at rates above 20%, while US growth was 11.8%. European sales, however, grew only 1.5% year-on-year, and declined 3.7% from May 1999, due to continual troubles with currency depreciation. Overall sales in June dropped 0.6% to $11.22bn, down from the $11.28bn reported in May. The SAI says the year-on-year growth tallies with its predictions of 12.1% growth year-to-year. It says that flash memory and digital signal processor sales were particularly strong, but that PC unit sales also remained strong, driving demand for microprocessors and memory products.
